Disaster Relief

The devastating floods that ravaged Southern Gujarat earlier this week have caused immense hardship to those residing in Surat, as well those in its suburbs and districts. A countless number Parsis, irrespective of their financial status, have been affected by this calamity. Raging waters have swept away houses in the semi-urban areas, ruined buildings in the city, and destroyed warehouses containing food, grains, and other essential commodities. There is even a paucity of drinking water and milk.

Many individuals and organizations have entered the scene to provide whatever assistance they can. At the present their goals are to provide relief to those immediately affected by the situation. Only after some sort of normalcy returns will it be possible to access the extent of property damage and rehabilitation efforts that will be required.

I am sure many of you will agree that we should try to do whatever we can to help as well. However, in order to make sure that our efforts are the most effective, we need some sort of assessment that will help determine where our funds would be most helpful. To this aim, I have personally been in contact with Trustees and President of the Surat Parsi Punchayat. They will be updating us of the situation and providing their advice as to where our funds should be most effective. They will also provide us with information as to where funds will be sent to ensure that every dime collected is used in the most beneficial manner.

We have started to collect funds for this noble effort.

Please make your donation online (by credit card), or make a cheque payable to "Fezana Disaster Relief", and mail it to the treasurer below:
